UK Footwear Market Summary

The UK retail market is set to increase in size by 15.1% over the next five years, taking its value to £312.8bn of which UK footwear market is estimated to be worth £6.1bn currently. Between 2001 and 2005, average footwear prices fell by 14.4%, while the general cost of living went up by 12.6%, so that shoppers are buying far more in volume terms, even though their spending in current prices is increasing only modestly. The ability of consumers to spend less has been partly due to falling prices for these products. This is basically the result of importers and retailers being able to source cheaper supplies from countries where production costs are lower.

Discounting in the high street and the sourcing of cheaper footwear from factories in the Far East are the factors that are largely responsible for the sluggish performance of the designer and local footwear market in value terms. Majority high street footwear retailers resort to Far East markets for footwear production to stay in the competition.

The footwear market is served by retailers at national, regional and local levels. However, it is a market that works on two levels, the conscious and the impulsive buy - Branded or non branded Shoe retailing has become more diverse and has improved over the past 10 years (1997 to 2006). There are fewer `me-too' high-street shops selling bland family ranges, these having been replaced by a choice of deep discounters, cutting-edge fashion chains and shoe superstores.

Our Model

A big part of the UK's footwear customer is now buying more pairs of discounted footwear than the branded. The deep discounters businesses have seen a great growth over a shorter period. We are a discounted footwear company for the family. We work closely with footwear factories both in the local market and abroad - cutting the middle man out. This in-return helps maintain our profits while customers have a far greater choice - value for their money - that is why we are called Factory Footwear.

Our Retail Outlets

Our planned retail outlets will be located within shopping centres, high streets and retail parks. They will be fitted out with good standards of workmanship coupled with the company's colour, layout and merchandising schemes. Each outlet will provide a comfortable feel yet a discounted footwear atmosphere. Our selected EPoS system will provide easy functionality with touch screen terminals while linking the stock system to our warehouse and logistic system for prompt deliveries. Regular promotion will be providing the value to our customers while for our retailer - maintaining the flow of traffic through the doors and cash in the till.
